Violin & Viola Lessons

"Making Music Changes Lives"

Private Lessons:

Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of individual students and the preferred teaching method is a modified Suziki approach. In lessons the student will learn:

  • Excellent violin setup and technique
  • Aural skills focusing on intonation, rhythm, and musical development
  • Note reading and music theory
  • Beautiful repertoire that is appropriate to both age and ability
  • Ensemble and Duet opportunities

Essential to the learning process, a private lesson is scheduled each week with Ms. McKelvie. Lessons are available in 45 and 60 minute formats.  30 minute lessons are reserved for very young new beginners only.

Lessons are taught using a traditional approach with sound and tested pedagogical best practices drawing from the many teachers and mentors Ms. McKelvie has had over the years.   Daily and consistent practice is expected from the student in order to keep progress growing from week to week.

Group Experiences and Recitals:

Students perform in at least one recital per year, usually held in May,   At this recital, each student will present at least one solo, and students will also have the opportunity to perform a few group pieces.  Students also regularly work on duets in lessons to further their ensemble skills.

Fees for lessons are charged per month based on the number of lessons each month.   Invoices are emailed through PayPal and are due by the first lesson of each month, August through May.  Lessons in June and July are optional.
